Two-Prong Probe + Board
The Soil Moisture Sensor Module comes in two pieces: the two-prong stainless probe that goes into the soil, and the comparator board that turns its signal into a readable output. The probe is pushed in beside the root inside the pot and reads moisture from within the soil, so a dry surface cannot mislead it. The blue trimmer on the board sets the threshold to suit your own soil. The lead arrives with its connector fitted.

The prongs are stainless steel. Even so, any metal probe left in permanently wet soil can show surface oxidation over time; removing and drying it between seasons extends its life.
With the blue trimmer on the board. The practical method is to bring the soil to the moisture level you want, then turn the trimmer to the point where the sensor triggers exactly there.
