Many "smart" home devices on the market depend on cloud servers. When the company shuts down or subscription fees rise, the device becomes useless. GrowlyBox was designed with a different approach.
What is local network control?
The ESP32-CAM module in GrowlyBox creates its own Wi-Fi access point or connects to your home network. The app connects directly to the cabinet over the same network. No data leaves your home.
Advantages of Bluetooth mode
When there is no network, Bluetooth mode activates. Your phone and the cabinet pair directly. Maximum range ~10 metres.
Why does it matter?
- Privacy: Your sensor data and camera footage are never uploaded to any server.
- Reliability: An internet outage doesn't affect your cabinet.
- Zero subscription: No monthly fee, no account required.
- Longevity: Even if company policy changes, your device keeps working.
The GrowlyBox app is completely free and works on an open protocol. Firmware updates are also applied over the local network.
